Cherub Bruce
April 3, 2000 - November 8, 2009
Eulogy by Cherub's mama, Carrie Bruce.
Cherub Bruce, the sweetest Golden Retriever in the Whole Wide World went
to heaven after battling with cancer. He was placed to rest at the Black
Family Cemetery, located in Hosford, Florida.
Cherub came to live with me (Carrie Bruce) when he was six weeks old. It
was an interesting time for both of us. Cherub quickly took on the role of
being husband and child; displaying true companionship. Cherub was the only
child until August 2006 when we rescued his brother (another Golden
Retriever) named, "Chance." Cherub and his mama both knew they were taking a
chance getting another dog.
Cherub was a mama's boy. He would follow mama where ever she went.
Whether it was in the computer room, bathroom, or in the bed, he was always
by her side. Cherub loved everyone he came in contact with.
He loved going on car rides. His mama even sold her Red Hot Mustang to
buy a Trailblazer so Cherub and Chance would have more room when they
traveled. He loved going anywhere he could be outside, run around, and play.
Cherub was just a sweet dog, easily entertained, and always happy. He
loved to listen to his mama sing and sometimes he would dance with her. He
liked to go on walks, runs, play fetch, and just Waller in the grass.
The last few months were a journey. Cherub was first diagnosed with
cancer in July and made a trip to Auburn. Surgery in Auburn involved
amputation of his right back leg. Cherub adjusted very quickly. He literally
ran out of the hospital leaving his mama and Uncle John behind.
The cancer seemed to be gone, until late September. This time there was
nothing more to do. The next few weeks we spent quality time together and
cherished every moment not knowing when it would be our last.
Cherub was a warrior. The last morning of his life, his Uncle John came
over to assist with his eating. When Uncle John asked him what he wanted,
Cherub just looked up at his mama. All he ever wanted was to love her and he
did!
Cherub leaves behind his mama (Carrie Bruce), brother (Chance Bruce),
Grandparents (Jolene and Terry Bruce), Great Granddad (J.C. Black, Jr.), His
Uncle and Aunt (Chuck and Melissa Bruce), Cousin (Avery), His adopted
(favorite) Uncle John Hamby, and tons of wonderful dog sitters and friends.
Cherub was a true friend who left his footprints on many hearts.
Cherub's family appreciates all the love, support, prayers, and
friendship shown by everyone at Winter Animal Hospital and Dr. Henderson and
Andrea Bays at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.
You are My Cherub, My Only Cherub
You make Me Happy When Skies are Gray
You never know Dear, How Much I love You
Please don't take My Cherub Away....
I Love You Cherub!!!!!
(What his mama used to sing to him)
